Full House Refurbishments in Caversham

Full house refurbishments in Caversham by Stephen Anthony Developments. Taking a tired or dated property back to a shell and rebuilding it to a modern standard, with wiring, plumbing, plaster and joinery done in one programme.

What a Full Refurbishment Covers

A full house refurbishment usually means new wiring, new plumbing and heating, replastering, new floors, kitchen and bathrooms, and often new windows and insulation. It is everything at once rather than a room every couple of years, which works out cheaper per room.

More Information

Living There or Moving Out

Most full refurbishments are easier if the house is empty, because trades can work in every room at the same time. If you have to stay, we phase it so you always have a working kitchen or bathroom, but the job takes longer that way.

Wiring, Plumbing and Plaster in Order

The order matters more than anything. Strip out first, then structural work, then first fix wiring and plumbing while the walls are open, then plaster, then second fix and finishes. Skipping ahead means chasing out finished walls later, which nobody wants to pay for twice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a full house refurbishment take in Reading?

A three bedroom house usually takes three to five months if it is empty, longer if you are living in it or if there is structural work. Strip out and first fix take the first month or so, and the last month is almost all finishing and snagging.

Should I refurbish before or after moving in?

Before, if you can manage it. An empty house lets every trade work at once and cuts weeks off the programme. It also means no furniture to protect and no dust in your belongings. If that is not possible we phase the work room by room instead.

What usually costs more than people expect?

Rewiring and replumbing, because both mean lifting floors and chasing walls, then making good afterwards. Damp and rot found once the plaster comes off is the other one. We allow for the likely surprises in the quote and tell you what is a provisional figure.
