Garage conversions in Caversham from Stephen Anthony Developments. Turning an unused garage into a room you can live in, with the floor, damp proofing, insulation and new front wall all done to building regulations.
Most garages are used for storage rather than cars. Converting one gives you an office, a playroom, a spare bedroom or a utility, and it is usually the cheapest extra room you can gain because the walls and roof already exist.

More Information
Garage floors sit lower than the house and often have no damp proof membrane. We lift or build up the floor, lay a membrane and insulation, then bring it level with the rest of the ground floor so there is no step in the doorway.
The door opening gets filled with a proper insulated wall and a window, or bifold doors if the garage faces the garden. Brick is matched to the house as closely as possible. Some people keep the door look from the street, which is worth doing if the frontage is uniform.
Usually not, if the garage is attached and you are not changing the footprint. It does need building regulations approval for insulation, damp proofing, ventilation and fire safety. Some newer estates carry conditions that require the garage to stay as parking, so that is worth checking.
Most single garage conversions take four to six weeks. Building up the floor and the new front wall takes the first fortnight, then insulation, plaster, wiring and finishing. A double garage or one that needs the roof replacing will take longer.
Yes, once it is insulated properly. Garage walls are often single skin, so we either build an inner leaf or use insulated board, and the floor gets insulation under the new screed. Heating is extended from the existing system where the boiler can take it.
Garage conversions are a large part of what we do for homeowners who need one more room and do not want to lose garden space. Over 34 years we have converted single and double garages, attached and detached, and dealt with the damp and level problems that come with almost all of them.
